Henri Matisse

The last stage in Henri Matisse’s life, known as “La Seconde Vie” was marked by an incredible burst of creativity in which he explored a new form of expression through the use of paper cut outs. He took inspiration in many traditional and non traditional motifs alike, such as the flora and fauna of the tropics, aquatic life, jazz, and Christianity. With the aid of assistants, he cut and rearranged the paper ceaselessly until he was content with the layout of the different elements.
